Satyajit Ray received numerous awards and honours, national and international, for his directorial, literary and artistic accomplishments. In fact, awards had begun to come his way years before he tried his hand at filmmaking.
 
1936 Wins first prize for his picture published in Boys’ Own Paper magazine published in London  
   
1955 Receives the first public ovation for Pather Panchali at Senate Hall, Calcutta, on 23 September.

 
1956 Receives Gold Medal for cover illustration at International Cover Illustration exhibition in New Delhi.
 
1957 Civic reception at Ranji Stadium, Calcutta, on return from Venice with the Golden Lion of St. Mark for Aparajito.
 
1958 Receives Padmashree award from the Government of India.
 
1959 Receives Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
 
1960 Member of Jury at Vienna International Film Festival.

Receives Special Honour from the University of California, Berkeley.
 
 1961 BETA Films of the Federal Republic of Germany selects him as one of the six best film directors of the world.

1991 Receives Special Award from Tokyo Film Festival Committee.
 
1992 Receives Special Oscar Award for lifetime achievement in filmmaking from Academy of Motion Pictures, USA.

Honoured as National Research Professor in India.

Conferred Bharat Ratna, the highest honour in India, by the Government of India.
 
 
1994 Release of Satyajit Ray stamp by the Indian Postal Department.
Special Oscar, for lifetime achievement - only after Chaplin and Kurosawa 2006 Lifetime achievement award , Golden Dolphin, Portugal.
